a collage entitled: working mother by : ellen | ig: @ellllllenn | aged 16 | oregon the influence of a mother is one like no other. whether or not you had a mother of your own in your life growing up, there were always mother’s around every corner. your teachers, your coaches, your friends mother, and even ones own mother. this collage tells the story of different mothers and their work. depicted on the right, a woman with slicked back hair & a killer suit. she has broken the stereotypical norm for a mother. she was told to marry a rich man. no one knew she MADE HERSELF a rich man. depicted in the middle, a woman who seemingly has the world in her hands (represented by pearls).  this photo was from a 1963 LIFE magazine. she had broken through what the people around her had deemed ‘modest’, and decided things were going to be done her way. depicted on the lower left, a photo of a woman from a 1953 LIFE magazine. the article in which her photo appeared was about this woman struggling to make a living for her family as a servant for a wealthy family. she did absolutely everything she could to support everyone in her life. she worked day and night and never stopped. she was an advocate for justice and civil rights. when the civil rights movement started the next year she continued to work, but she also protested for her rights. depicted on the upper right, a stay at home mother. though she does not have a ‘typical work day’, she works nonetheless. she nurtures her children, she takes care of her home, and it is what she loves. these women may all have different styles of work, but are the HARDEST workers you will know. the passion a mother has in everything she does influences every single person she will meet. her love and her light is the way she can get through her life. a mother’s influence is like no other. especially that of a WORKING MOTHER. this collage was made entirely of secondhand goods, including the magazine clippings, pearls, sparkly stars, and backing.
